Everyone should’ve expected much from the film produced by Hanung Baramantyo. Considering that he’s directed several hits, this one should’ve been big too. Sorry to say, those expectations are useless. The only reason left to see this film is that a  favorite bands’ personnels play the central characters.

The debut film of The Changcuters tells about five high school students: Cacing, Mulder, Ciko, Coki, and Dadang. They found a motorbike gang named Tarix Jabrix. From the very start, they commited not to be like the other gangs, that tend to be criminals.

As the story grows, “Tarix Jabrix” happened to get into trouble with another gang “  Smokers “. The conflict with the gang, which includes romance (as usual), is the main composition of the story. Unfortunately, how the story came into these conflicts is too easy, and so is the solution. Everything seems to be too coincidential, to avoid the word irrational.

Duration is spent too much on characters introduction at the beginning. This way, there is not enough time to focus on the main topic: clashes happened between “Tarix Jabrix” and “Smokers” . Besides, the role played by Francine Rosenda turned out to be nothing more than accessories.

However, “Tarix Jabrix” succeeded enough to be a bit different from other teenagers movies by picking recent issue in Bandung: motorbike gangs. It is also a right media for Changcuters to show people that they are not only good performers on stage, but also quite talented actors.
